We Are Lousy Bloggers + Love For New Vendors

Dude, we know. We are lousy bloggers. It has been months since our last post and there’s really no excuse, especially since things in the land of Rock Socks have been super busy. It’s not like we haven’t had anything to say; it’s just that we haven’t had time to say it HERE. Sowry.

But we’re going to change that starting now and end an already awesome 2010 on a high note!

We make socks, so obviously we really dig them. But, admittedly, we still aren’t sure what to think of these snazzy furniture socks from Berlin-based design duo, Chris&Ruby.

We’re the types who are more likely to paint (and decoupage, and cover in rhinestones) old, scuffed furniture legs rather than dress them up in cozy knee highs…But this idea definitely gets points for creativity. Then again, it also kind of reminds us of old-timer cafeterias that put tennis balls on the feet of chairs, to prevent scuffing. Hmm….

Rock Socks No Longer KOSHER

Say Bye-Bye!

As we are already gearing up for Fall, here at Rock Socks we are also making decisions about which sock styles to phase out to make room for new styles. It’s a little heart-breaking making these decisions, kind of like looking at the un-bought Christmas trees left in the lot on Dec. 26, but they must be made nonetheless!

First up looks to be our KOSHER sock; in retiring KOSHER we are making room for a new Jewish-themed sock…And that’s all we’re going to tell you. For now.

Also getting retired is GENIUS. The wise-crack sock couldn’t compete with NERD. Plus, retiring GENIUS gives us room to introduce NERD in new color combinations! While we have some ideas of our own, we wonder what colors say NERD to you?

New colorways for some favorite Rock Socks’ styles will be introduced over the next few months and totally new styles will start hitting the streets by early August – so stay tuned!

This past weekend was Pride in Los Angeles. We were in Portland (giving out socks during the Hot Sock ride as part of Pedalpalooza) and so didn’t get to join in the fun…Unlike our buddy, Sam Phillips. She was broadcasting her show, The Single Life, live from Pride at the Hot Talk LA (the online radio station she helped launch, natch) booth. AND, as the picture above shows, she was rocking our new GAY socks!

Want some GAY socks for yourself, for upcoming Pride events? Portland Pride is this weekend and you can score GAY socks ahead of time from either The Red Light or Sock Dreams. If you’re going to be strutting your stuff at Seattle’s Pride, two weekends from now, snag GAY socks at The Sock Monster in Wallingford.

Hot Sock Ride II This Friday!

How cool is this? As part of Pedalpalooza, Portland’s 2 week long celebration of all things BIKE, a few genius ladies have organized the Hot Sock Ride…It’s an evening bike ride through PDX orchestrated around the city’s awesome sock culture.

Rock Socks is joining Portland-based sock world heavy-weights Sock Dreams and Sock It To Me to make the ride extra fun. In fact, we were honored with a request to host a mid-ride soiree at Sock Dreams’ Sellwood store – to which we of course said “YES!”

In true Portland fashion, the Hot Sock Ride is open to the public. Cyclists will gather this Friday, June 11, at 5:30 pm at the Vera Katz statue. Ride organizers will then lead the gang around Portland to a series of sock-related destinations. Rock Socks and Sock Dreams will be providing games, prizes, snacks and libations to riders before they head off to the SITM warehouse and ultimately wind down at an Alberta watering hole.

Find out more about the Hot Sock Ride and other Pedalpalooza events (including the Naked Bike Ride!) at the event’s site. And if you’re in Portland, the weather is supposed to be quite nice so you have no excuse not to join in the fun, stop by, say hi and show off your rad socks!

Make Your Own Whiskey!

If you’ve got a spare $5k lying around and a passion for Whiskey, you could either buy 500 pairs of our whiskey socks (that’s nearly two years’ worth of fresh socks!) or you can work with Portland’s House Spirits Distillery to craft 100 or so bottles of custom booze – you dictate everything from the flavor notes to the label design. Whiskey’s all about the aging (House Distillery doesn’t specify a time frame from plopping down your cash to your whiskey’s delivery), so this product wouldn’t be as immediately gratifying as boxes and boxes of our socks showing up on your doorstep within a week (shameless plug), but if you have that much extra money lying around now you are probably pretty good at differing indulgences.

And, we have to admit, if you’re a high roller having your own custom whiskey would be pretty bad ass.
